Blog on the Great Red Spot

The "Great Red Spot" is a spot where there are many volcanoes and storms. Well, many scientists have tried to get information about this spot. They have got information that the great red spot consists of many big volcanoes which are way larger than the volcanoes on earth and underwater. This spot's size was very large in 1830, but now its size has decreased. There are many storms in that large area. The storms are very fast and can travel 300 km\h. These storms contain gases like nitrogen, hydrogen, helium etc.

Scientists predict that this spot even before 1665 but they found about the spot only after 1830. Robert Hooke, a scientist of the 17th century, observed this spot. He said that the spot looked like a storm moving in a circular direction. Well, in the 21st century, the spot started shrinking in size. In 2004, The spot's size was half of its longitudinal extent. Scientists say that the planet's edges started 'flaking'. The Great Red Spot has a colorful, wavy pattern.

Well no one knows how the Great Red Spot has a reddish colour. Scientists predict that that this reddish colour is formed because of chemical products created frm the solar ultraviolet irradiation of ammonium hydrosulphide.

The research of the Great Red Spot started after 1830 when Robert Hooke saw a spot on Jupiter. The researches are still going on with the help of the spacecraft, "Cassini Huygens".
