The war of Troy

This was a war between the Greeks and Trojans of Troy. This war was waged after Paris abducted Helen, wife Menelaus of Sparta. When Menelaus demanded her return, the Trojans refused. Menelaus then persuaded his brother Agamemnon to lead an army against Troy.

This war is the most important in Greek mythology, and has been narrated through works of Greek literature, most notably Homer's Iliad. The war originated from a quarrel from the goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, after Eris, the goddess of strife and discord gave them a golden apple, also known as the Apple of Discord, which is only for the fairest. Well, after that, Zeus, the god of thunder and rain, sent the goddesses to Paris, who said that that, Aphrodite, should be given the golden apple as she was the fairest. Then, Aphrodite, in return, made Helen, the most beautiful women of all and wife of Menelaus, fall in love with Paris, who took her to Troy. Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and the brother of Helen's husband Menelaus, led an expedition of Achaean troops to Troy and besieged the city for ten years because of Paris' insult.

After the death of many heroes, including the Achaeans Achilles and Ajax, and the Trojans Hector and Paris, the city fell to the ruse of the Trojan horse. The Achaeans slaughtered the Trojans(except for some women and children whom they kept or sold as slaves) and desecrated the temples, thus earning the gods' wrath. Few of the Achaeans returned safely to their homes and many found colonies in distant shores.

Blog on the Mythology of Greeks

Greek mythology can be dated to be originated around 2 billion years ago. It is the order of myths originally told by the ancient greeks and a genre of Ancient Greek Folklores. These stories tell the origin and the nature of the world, the lives and the activities of deities, heroes and mythological creatures and the other significances are their practices of cult and rituals.

In the Greek mythology, the Greeks say that Gaia(the earth was born before anyone. Then she gave birth to Uranus(the sky) who then fertilized her. From the union were born the first titans-six males:Coeus, Crius, Cronus, Hyperion, Lapetius and Oceanus, and six females:Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Rhea, Theia, Themis, Tethys.

Then, Cronus had a son, Zeus. Both of them had a father-against-son conflict. Because Cronus had betrayed his father, he thought his sons would also do the same thing to him. So, when Rhea gave birth to a son, he ate them up. Rhea didn't like this. So, she hid Zeus and put a stone in his place. So, Cronus had eaten the stone. Zeus had grown up by that time. Then he gave Cronus a drug that made him vomit. He threw up Rhea's other children, including Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera.
Zeus then challenged Cronus to a war for the kingships of gods. He won the war with the help of Cyclopes and his siblings and then he put Cronus and the other Titans in Tartarus and Zeus ruled his emperor very wisely with his siblings
